Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Insurance

Fill the Gaps in Your Medicare Coverage

Original Medicare only covers about 80% of your medical costs. A Medicare Supplement plan covers the rest — deductibles, copays, and coinsurance — so you never face a surprise bill.

What Original Medicare Leaves Uncovered

Medicare Parts A and B are valuable — but they leave significant gaps that can cost you thousands out of pocket. A Medicare Supplement plan closes those gaps so you can focus on your health, not your bills.

Part A deductible ($1,632 per benefit period in 2024)
Part B deductible ($240/year) and 20% coinsurance
Hospital stays beyond 60 days
Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
Emergency care outside the US

Medigap Closes the Gaps

A Medicare Supplement plan pays after Medicare pays — covering most or all of the costs Medicare leaves behind. You get predictable monthly premiums and virtually no surprise bills.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Medicare Supplement insurance.

What is the difference between Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage?

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works alongside Original Medicare (Parts A & B) to cover out-of-pocket costs like deductibles and copays. You can see any doctor who accepts Medicare nationwide. Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces Original Medicare with a private plan that typically has network restrictions but may include dental and vision. Medigap offers more predictable costs and greater flexibility; Medicare Advantage often has lower premiums but higher out-of-pocket exposure.

When is the best time to buy Medicare Supplement insurance?

The best time is during your 6-month Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period, which begins the month you turn 65 and enroll in Medicare Part B. During this window, insurers cannot deny you coverage or charge higher premiums due to pre-existing conditions. Waiting until after this window closes means you may face medical underwriting and potential denial.

Does Medicare Supplement cover prescription drugs?

No. Medicare Supplement plans do not cover prescription drugs. You will need to enroll in a separate Medicare Part D prescription drug plan to cover medications. Our agents can help you find a Part D plan that pairs well with your Medigap coverage.

Can I be denied Medicare Supplement coverage?

During your Open Enrollment Period (the 6 months after turning 65 and enrolling in Part B), you cannot be denied coverage. Outside of this window, insurers in most states can use medical underwriting and may deny coverage or charge higher premiums based on health conditions. Some states have additional protections — our agents can advise on your specific state's rules.

How much does Medicare Supplement insurance cost per month?

Premiums vary by plan type, age, gender, tobacco use, and location. As a general range: Plan G typically costs $100–$200/month for a 65-year-old, while Plan N runs $80–$160/month. Rates increase with age. The best way to find your exact rate is to get a free quote — our agents compare 15+ carriers to find your lowest available premium.

What does Plan G cover?

Plan G is the most comprehensive Medigap plan available to new Medicare enrollees. It covers: Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs, Part A hospice care coinsurance, Part B coinsurance or copayments, the first 3 pints of blood, Part A deductible, skilled nursing facility care coinsurance, and foreign travel emergency care (up to plan limits). The only cost not covered is the annual Part B deductible ($240 in 2024).

Turning 65? Don't Miss Your Open Enrollment Window.

The 6 months after you turn 65 and enroll in Part B is your guaranteed acceptance window. After it closes, insurers can deny you or charge more. Call us today — our specialists will make sure you get the best plan at the best rate.
